MySource Matrix 3.12.0 RC1 Released

Last Monday saw the start of a new stable branch with the first release candidate of MySource Matrix 3.12. Version 3.12.0 RC1 contains almost 80 new features and improvements over the 3.10.x branch of Matrix.

Please note that the release candidate is provided for evaluation only. Upgrades to version 3.12 will not be supported until the first stable release, version 3.12.0, which is due to be released on 8th January 2006. An upgrade guide, which is likely to be based on upgrading from version 3.10.4 (the latest stable version), is currently being developed and tested, and will be ready in time for the 3.12.0 release.

For a complete list of the improvements and changes, please consult the CHANGELOG file included with the release.

New Development Version

The branching of version 3.12 means that the development version is now known as version 3.13.0, which will form the basis of all development work towards the next stable release (3.14), which is expected around mid-year.

New Features

RSS Feed: HTTP Simple Authentication

Added to: 3.13.0 development

This new feature allows you to restrict access to an RSS Feed to users within your system. Accessing an RSS Feed asset with this new option turned on (and public read access turned off) will return a HTTP 401 Unauthorized header, allowing authentication details to be received from the user's client; be it a browser or feed reader. These details are then used to log into Matrix to access the feed.

If the user does not have read access to the asset, it will be treated as a failed login and a 401 header returned again. If authentication is cancelled in a browser window, the Matrix login screen will appear.

This new option is enabled on a per-asset basis.

Reload User Trigger Action

Added to: 3.12.0 stable, 3.13.0 development

This new trigger action reloads a user if external authentication variables are present. This is best used to keep someone from logging themselves out and logging in as another user when authenticated by external means, by attaching this action to the "user logged out" trigger event.

Users is Sys Admin Trigger Condition

Added to: 3.13.0 development

This new trigger condition returns TRUE if the current user is effectively a system administrator - in other words, the current user is a backend user or above who is linked under the System Administrators folder.

Incomplete Metadata More Obvious

Added to: 3.13.0 development

This feature request makes incomplete required metadata stand out more on the Metadata screen, by adding red notes on the screen when they are empty.

Planned Development

No new generic features are currently scheduled for development.
