Version 3.10.2 & 3.8.7 Releases on Monday

The next versions on the stable branches of MySource Matrix will be released this coming Monday, 9th October. These versions are primarily bug-fix releases, however small number of minor feature additions have been added.

Version 3.8.7 will contain at least 34 bug fixes, as well as the following:

- A new "Orphaned HIPO Jobs" interface, allowing orphaned HIPOs to be removed from the system (see newsletter #91)
- "Role Assignments" screen added for LDAP Users (see below)

Version 3.10.2 will contain at least 49 bug fixes, as well as the following feature and change in addition to the ones added to version 3.8.7:

- New "Import Thesaurus Terms" trigger action (see newsletter #93)

- Trigger name field is now mandatory (see newsletter #92)

These will represent the best available versions of MySource Matrix at the time of release, and those users running previous versions are encouraged to upgrade to these new versions when they are released.

New Features

Role Assignments Screen for LDAP Users

Added to: 3.11.0 development, 3.10.2 stable, 3.8.7 stable

The Role Assignments screen, previously available only for "real" User assets within MySource Matrix, has now been added for LDAP Users.

Site Map: "Show Dependant Assets" Option

Added to: 3.11.0 development

A new "Show Dependant Assets" option has been added to the Site Map asset, allowing the listing or suppression of dependants of assets from being displayed. By default, dependant assets will remain listed.

Planned Development

Custom Form Accessibility Improvements

To be added to : 3.11.0 development
Estimated start date: already in development
Estimated end date: 9th October 2006

This development will see the addition of explicit Tab Index settings to Form Questions. Also, the default bodycopy will be modified so that question names have LABEL tags surrounding them, as well as a new keyword for each question (when customising the page contents) to display the question names with LABEL tags.

Future Report Regeneration

To be added to : 3.11.0 development
Estimated start date: already in development
Estimated end date: 13th October 2006

This development will add a new section to reports, "Future Report Regeneration". This functionality will be similar to that found in Future Status or Future Linking sections in assets, except it will allow you to schedule regeneration of a report. The user will be able to schedule a regeneration at a specific time, or at a certain time in the future (eg. "in 2 hours").

The user will also be able to specify a period of recurrence for regeneration (eg. regenerate "every 6 hours"). Notifications (in the form of an internal message) will be provided if regeneration process is still running by the time of the next run. This will allow users to be selected to receive the notification through an Asset Finder, or default to the default email.

Search Manager DB Plugin Architecture

To be added to : 3.11.0 development
Estimated start date: already in development
Estimated end date: 20th October 2006

This development will separate query functions for Oracle and PostgreSQL systems into separate "plugin" classes, allowing the queries to be optimised for each database system (as well as providing other database-specific features, eg. advanced functionality provided by Oracle's Text package), while remaining transparent to callers of Search Manager.

Notify Users of Broken Links

To be added to : 3.11.0 development
Estimated start date: already in development
Estimated end date: 20th October 2006

This development will add a feature to sent a list of broken link errors to a list of users. Various types of errors will be reported (eg. internal link points to an invalid asset ID, internal link points to an asset in the trash, invalid email address, and so on). The format of each error message will be customisable.

Like the Future Report Regeneration feature above, this feature should be able to send an internal message to a list of users selected through an Asset Finder, or default to the default email.

Enhanced Backend Searching

To be added to : 3.11.0 development
Estimated start date: mid-October 2006
Estimated end date: mid-November 2006

This development will improve searching for assets in backend interfaces (Admin and Simple Edit) by using the Search Manager's functionality.

The specification has not yet been finalised, however this development is likely to take the shape of the "Quick Search" box in the backend being extended to search for assets by keyword. A limited form of this Quick Search box will also be made available in the Simple Edit interface.

Notes:

Bug #1733 (Cannot delete ldap user) was submitted by Christophe Olivar but was deleted and re-posted as bug #1735 (Cannot delete link to a LDAP user) after discovering the bug was indeed valid.

Bug #1737 (Add "Restrictions" screen to LDAP User) was submitted as a feature request by wombat, however the feature has been marked as Postponed to MySource 4.0. This is not currently possible in MySource Matrix as Restrictions settings are stored as an attribute in a normal user, which cannot be properly stored for a LDAP user as they do not use the database's attributes table.

Bug #1738 (Documentation: Bulkmail manual - Adding a Bulkmail Subscriber Page) was submitted by Daniel Nitsche but was marked as not being a bug. Documentation requests are not suitable for the MySource Matrix bug tracker.
