Two new MySource Matrix releases were made public last Monday. Version 3.14.6 contains 22 bug fixes (10 in core). Version 3.16.2 contains 24 bug fixes and 5 new features in total (11 bug fixes, 2 new features in core). Certain areas of Matrix (most notably the WYSIWYG, and the Calendar package) have had their JavaScript modified to address bug fixes in these versions, and thus you may need to clear your browser cache for these to work properly again.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #139

Two new stable releases of MySource Matrix were released last Monday. Version 3.14.3 is the latest release on the 3.14.x (current stable) branch, fixing 13 bugs. Version 3.12.7 is the latest release on the 3.12.x (old stable) branch, fixing 11 bugs. Both versions also contain a change to LDAP Bridge; the password field is now ignored when a blank Bind DN is used - allowing easier switching to and from anonymous binding. Users of earlier versions of MySource Matrix are encouraged to upgrade to these latest versions. Also, the first release candidate of 3.16 branch of MySource Matrix, a.k.a. version 3.16.0 RC1, was released on Monday. This release offers almost 50 new features and improvements to MySource Matrix. This release is provided for evaluation of the new features of the 3.16 branch only; no support is provided for upgrading from earlier versions to the release candidate. A full upgrade guide will be compiled and made available upon the stable release of 3.16.0. The next scheduled release of MySource Matrix is on Monday, 3rd September, when the first stable release of 3.16.0, along with stable releases of 3.14.4 and 3.12.8, will be made available to the public. Please note that 3.12.8 will be the last supported version on the 3.12.x branch, and users are strongly encouraged to move to the 3.14.x or 3.16.x branch if possible.

This new version contains about 50 new features and improvements designed to improve your experience with your MySource Matrix system. Please note that this is the candidate release (the stable version of 3.16.0 is due to be released on Monday, 3rd September), and as such, this release is intended for evaluation of the 3.16.x branch only. No support is provided for upgrading systems from 3.14.x or earlier to 3.16.0 RC1. Upgrade procedures will be finalised with the release of the 3.16.0 stable version.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #135

If you have updated your Dev system since Wednesday, you may have noticed some changes in font sizes in a few places. This is part of an effort to move the the administration interface (not simple edit) to use relative sizes, rather than absolute sizes which can't be resized by Internet Explorer (and IE6 in particular). The main goal is to have everything look as it was before (and is in 3.14.x), based on a base size of 16 pixels (the default for IE, Firefox and Safari) but using relative sizes. Most of it is there at the moment, however there are some discrepancies (such as in content editing) that will be ironed out soon, and definitely before the 3.16 RC.

Cacheable header options (Send Cacheable Header, Send 404 Cacheable Header, Send " no-cache" Header for File Assets) are now set to disabled by default upon initial installation of MySource Matrix. This change was added to the upcoming 3.14.2 and 3.12.6 versions as well as the development version.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #130

Last Monday saw two new versions of MySource Matrix (3.14.1 and 3.12.5) released to the public. Both are predominantly bug-fix only versions, however one significant change is the resolution of issues relating to using the Asset Map under Java SE 6. Users of older versions, especially those wanting to upgrade to Java 6, should upgrade to one of these two versions. (The Asset Map will continue to support versions 1.4 and 5 of the Java runtime.) The next releases (3.14.2, 3.12.6) are currently slated for Monday, 2nd July. MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #128

Previously, the install key for a system - used as part of SSV warranty purposes - had to be generated separately using the generate_install_key.php script. Now, the step_03.php script will also generate the install key automatically. This change was backported into the 3.12 and 3.14 branches (becoming public from version 3.12.5 and 3.14.1, respectively).

There were some performance issues relating to the Related Asset Listing, especially when sorting by metadata. Now, the Asset Listing has two different functions for getting the asset list in unsorted and sorted form. This allows Related Asset Listing to filter by its tags before sorting, allowing the listing to sort on less items. This change was backported into the 3.12 and 3.14 branches (taking effect from version 3.12.5 and 3.14.1, respectively).

The 3.14.x branch of MySource Matrix went stable with the release of version 3.14.0 last Monday (7th May). The upgrade guide from 3.12.x to 3.14.0 is available from the MySource Matrix site under " Resources > Upgrading" .Two bug-fix releases (3.12.4 and 3.10.9) were also released last Monday. Please note that 3.10.9 is the last planned release of the 3.10.x branch, and users of this or earlier branches are encouraged to upgrade to 3.12.x (or later) to continue receiving updates.

There will be three versions of MySource Matrix released next Monday, 7th May 2007.Version 3.14.0 will be the first stable release of the new 3.14.x branch of MySource Matrix. The 3.14.x branch has around 70 new features and improvements over the 3.12.x series, including one additional feature added since the release candidate (the ability to set the dictionary used by the spell checker in External Tools - see " New Features" in this newsletter). Version 3.14.0 will also contain a number of fixes to bugs that were identified in the release candidate.Version 3.12.4 will provide further fixes to bugs that were identified in version 3.12.3. Finally, version 3.10.9 will also be released, which is expected to be the final release of the 3.10.x branch of MySource Matrix.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #120

The candidate release of the future stable branch of MySource Matrix, version 3.14.0 RC1, will be released this coming Monday, 2nd April 2007. This new release will contain around 70 new features and additions, including a large upgrade to the Ecommerce Form, new assets such as Online Quiz, Comment and a number of new trigger actions, along with a number of other improvements. Note that as usual, no support is provided for upgrading systems to the 3.14 release candidate. An upgrade guide will be developed and provided in time for the 3.14.0 stable release, currently scheduled for 7th May. Any new development following this release will be placed in the new 3.15.0 development version, which is currently due to evolve into a 3.16 release candidate in August 2007.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #119

Major changes have been made to the Ecommerce Form (form_ecommerce) asset in the development version. Those systems using Ecommerce Form assets MUST be reviewed in order. In particular, one will need to set up the new Receipt bodycopy (inside the " Ecommerce Form Contents" asset) as " out of the box" receipt generation is no longer supported. The changes made to the Ecommerce Form are summarised in the " New Features" section.

There was a further change to the upgrade_data_dirs.php script in 3.12 and development versions. There was an issue where lookup records were being changed based on a partial match of the asset ID, resulting in an incorrect hash; for instance, when trying to change the hash for asset ID 123, it would change the hash for asset ID 12345 to the same (and in this case, incorrect) value.If you are experiencing these problems - particularly for upgraded systems from 3.10 to later versions - then re-run the upgrade_data_dirs.php script with the "--fix-lookups" option. For further information on other switches, run the script without any parameters for the usage statement.

Two new point releases of MySource Matrix were released last Monday. Both are bug-fix releases only, with version 3.12.2 fixing 26 bugs and 3.10.7 fixing fourteen.There is an upgrade guide for these versions, which should be run if yoursystem uses rollback - there are new indexes to add to improve performance - or your system is affected by bug #2092 (" keyword doesn't work when set to "Never" display").The next releases, 3.10.8 and 3.12.3, will be released on Monday, 2nd April 2007. It is expected at this time that the next branch of MySource Matrix will commence with the release of version 3.14.0 RC1.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #115

Two weeks ago, the Matrix newsletter reported a new popup on the Layout asset's Contents screen that displayed all available layout keywords. However, this popup did not take into account screens where Simple Edit screen access had not been enabled (using limbo_access="1" in the edit interface files). The popup window has been modified to accommodate this change, so that only screens and fields that should be accessible in Simple Edit are available using keywords.

The upgrade guide for the 3.10 to 3.12 upgrade was missing a query to add a new column to the rollback table for sq_ast_url. This query only needs to be run if rollback is enabled on your system.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #113

MySource Matrix versions 3.10.6 and 3.12.1 were released to the public on Monday 5th February. Version 3.10.6 provided fixes to 21 bugs, as well as a small interface change to LDAP Bridge which appears when LDAP support is not compiled into PHP. Version 3.12.1 fixed 28 bugs, and in addition to said LDAP Bridge change, provides interface improvements to the "Back to" list in the Admin interface, as well as in the Access History Design Area's Details screen. The next public releases (3.10.7 and 3.12.2) are due to be released on Monday 5th March.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #110

The first new stable version of MySource Matrix's 3.12.x branch was released last Monday. The 3.12.x branch adds almost 80 new features and improvements compared to the 3.10.x branch, and this is expanded by more than 10 new features and changes between the release candidate and the stable version. The new version 3.12.0 also fixes 41 bugs found in 3.12.0 RC1. The 3.12.0 release also marks couple of major changes for MySource Matrix. First, the 3.12.x branch is the first version of the CMS where the core is available under a dual licence, either using the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) or the commercially-supported Squiz Supported Version (SSV) licence. Also, some assets previously only available as part of the commercial module package are now available for use as part of the downloadable (GPL) version. Now available in the free version are all assets from the CMS package (except for Remote Content), all assets from the News package, and some parts of the Import Tools package (particularly the Bulk File Upload tool). Other assets will remain available only under a SSV licensed system. An procedure for upgrading systems to 3.12.0 is available from the MySource Matrix web site (http://matrix.squiz.net/resources/upgrading and follow the 3.10 to 3.12 link under "Major Version Upgrades"). This script has been tested on upgrades from version 3.10.4 to 3.12.0, however it will work with 3.10.5 as well. Upgrades of earlier systems should first upgrade to at least 3.10.4 before upgrading to 3.12.0.

MySource Matrix Developer Newsletter - Issue #109

Two new point versions of MySource Matrix were released on Monday. Version 3.8.10, the last of the 3.8.x branch, fixed 8 bugs. Version 3.10.5 fixed 24 bugs and also brought a few minor changes in functionality. One feature was added in 3.10.5: the ability to add a Card Verification Value (CVV) field for the Esec Payment Gateway asset. Users on earlier versions of 3.8.x and 3.10.x are strongly recommended to upgrade to these versions. A reminder that with the 3.8.10 release, the 3.8.x branch is now deprecated. Bug fixes will now only be placed into 3.10.x, 3.12.x and development branches.
