covers versions 3.14.10 stable, 3.16.6 stable, 3.18.0 RC2, 3.19.0 development
The second release candidate of the first PHP 5-based branch of MySource Matrix, version 3.18.0 RC2, was released on Wednesday, 12th March.
This RC provides about 25 bug fixes, but also provides a further 20 new features, primarily from the Feature Bazaar of last year's MySource Matrix User Conference. Compared to the 3.16.x branch, version 3.18.0 will now provide about 40 new features.
There are a couple of caveats with this current release candidate:
- The newly-released PostgreSQL 8.3 is not yet supported. We have not yet been able to test this version, and it appears that there are some issues relating to stricter type-checking that need to be worked through first.
- Experimental support for Oracle database is provided, which did not exist in 3.18.0 RC1. However, recent bug fixes in the Oracle extension support in PHP 5 makes us believe that the likely minimum version for the RC2 to run under Oracle is PHP 5.2.6, currently itself in release candidate mode. We recommend testing with the latest RC of PHP 5.2.6, available from the PHP web site - on a non-production web server of course.
The new RC2 is available for download from the MySource Matrix web site. No support is provided by Squiz for upgrades to or from candidate releases, including upgrades from 3.18.0 RC1 to RC2.
Due to the Good Friday public holiday, the newsletter will be here a day early next week.
Added to: 3.19.0 development, 3.18.0 RC2
These new System Configuration options allow the disabling of the Roles system entirely, or of the provision of the Global Roles feature. When changed, step_02.php will reconfigure the views to exclude these features. This can improve the performance of some systems.
Added to: 3.19.0 development, 3.18.0 RC2
The "Calculate Average Comment Rating" trigger action, added a couple of weeks ago, will now also calculate the total number of comments, which can be set to a metadata field in the same way as the average rating is currently.
No new generic features are currently scheduled for development.
Additional queries: No additional queries are required for upgrades.
