Matrix Releases Next Monday

There will be two new public releases of MySource Matrix next Monday:

  • MySource Matrix 3.18.1. This is the first maintenance release of the 3.18.x branch; currently fixing 23 bugs identified in version 3.18.0.
  • MySource Matrix 3.16.8. This next maintenance release of the 3.16.x branch; currently fixing 16 bugs identified in earlier 3.16.x releases.

Version 3.16.8 also includes a change to the Metadata Value trigger condition allowing it to be specified multiple times, and continuing improvement to the E-Commerce module. Version 3.18.1 includes the Metadata Value trigger for the first time (inadvertently omitted in 3.18.0), the E-Commerce improvements, and also includes a new "Unsaved Changes" warning if you navigate from a page in the backend where you might lose changes.

In terms of database support, version 3.18.1 will be the first version to support PostgreSQL 8.3, and should also support Oracle installs with PHP 5.2.6, the latter having been released today.

These releases will be available sometime on Monday on the downloads page of the MySource Matrix web site.

New Features

Auto-Approve Multiple Workflow Steps

Added to: 3.19.0 development

MySource Matrix will now automatically approve as much workflow as possible when a user approves an asset's changes, spreading over multiple steps when necessary, until it finds a step that requires someone else's approval (or where that user's approval is not enough to approve that step).

In the rare instance that a user is able to approve a multiple-step workflow all by him- or herself, the workflow will not be initiated and the status will jump to Approved to Go Live, which is the same setup as what happens for a single-step workflow. If a user is able to approve all remaining steps of a workflow already in progress, then all approval messages will be sent before the workflow is completed.

Simple Edit Layouts Applied by Root Node

Added to: 3.19.0 development

MySource Matrix will now allow you to set Simple Edit Layouts by root node, similar to what happens now with Designs. This can be performed via a new Layouts screen.

Existing global assignments of Simple Edit Layouts will be preserved and can still be set or modified in the Layout Manager, and will still take effect if no root node-level Simple Edit Layout is found for a given asset.

Planned Development

System Maintenance Screen

To be added to : 3.19.0 development
Estimated start date: already in development
Estimated end date: May 2008

This development will add a system maintenance screen where you can view information about your system. The screen will list recommend maintenance tasks that should be performed on your system. Some of these tasks may be performed from this screen.

Multiple Proxy Support

To be added to : 3.19.0 development, 3.18.2 stable
Estimated start date: 5th May 2008
Estimated end date: 9th May 2008

When MySource Matrix accesses URLs for its own purposes (Remote Content, Links Report, etc.), the Proxy Authentication screen can be set to pass these requests through a single proxy. This development will allow additional proxy servers to be specified, to be used when a URL requested by Matrix matches a certain pattern.

Notes:

Bug #2985 ("Recurring event only shows once in a year view calendar", reported by Cham Lim on 24th April) was marked as Not a Bug. The report suggested that recurring events should be shown once for each instance within a year calendar. The current method, which shows recurring events once for a certain time period within a calendar set to "List without headings" for that time period, is by design and the year view is behaving as expected.
