Abbreviation Expansion in the WYSIWYG Editor

Last Updated: 17 Dec 2015

When using the WYSIWYG Editor, abbreviations can be automatically expanded using Built-in Relations from a Thesaurus. This means that when a user enters an abbreviation into the WYSIWYG Editor, a pop-up will appear allowing them to replace the abbreviation with the full term. This is especially useful when creating abbreviations for regularly used, lengthy terms.

To set up abbreviation expansion in the WYSIWYG Editor:

  1. Go to the Global Preferences screen in the System Configuration section of the system.
  2. In the WYSIWYG Plugins field, select the Matrix Expand Keywords plug-in, if it is not yet selected.
  3. Select a Thesaurus in the Thesaurus field, as shown in the figure below.

For more information about the Global Preferences screen, refer to the System Configuration manual.

The Abbreviation Relation must now be configured.
  4. Go to the Details screen of the selected Thesaurus.
  5. In the Built-in Relations section, select the relation used for abbreviations, as shown in the figure below.

Abbreviation expansion is now configured for the WYSIWYG Editor. When entering an abbreviation term from the Thesaurus, the full term will be suggested as shown in the figure below.
