This month we had a big release in version 5.4.3.0 which contains several new features and enhancements. This version includes a new Orphaned Assets Tool, Metadata Field Morphing, @import support for SCSS Design Files, several new Keywords and Trigger Events, and much much more.

Squiz UK & Edinburgh Summits

Earlier this month Squiz held its annual customer Summits in both the UK and Edinburgh.

They were both huge successes with interesting talks on AI, Matrix, Funnelback, GDPR, and much more.

Dave Letorey's talk on what's new in Squiz Matrix is now also up and available in the Media section for you to check out if you missed out on this great event.

Upcoming New Features & Enhancements

With 5.4.3.0 out the door, lets have a look at some other enhancements that are also on their way for a future 5.4 release.

Updated Default Naming of Content Containers

#11385

We're changing the default naming convention of Content Containers that get created by any asset that uses them, such as the Standard Page asset.

Currently, the name includes the asset ID of the container and produces a name such as "Content Container 1234". Any subsequent containers you add to that same asset, will receive a name of "New Content Container 1234".

Not only is this an inconsistency problem, but it also creates confusion whenever a container is cloned as the name will not be updated to reflect the new asset ID of the newly cloned container.

To combat this, we're simplifying the format and simply just using "Content Container" for both originally created containers and new ones added under the same asset. The id="" attribute generated on the frontend will still include the asset ID in order to make sure the HTML markup for the IDs is kept unique.

Tag Support for Git File Bridge

#9092

Currently when you use the Git File Bridge to checkout files from a Git repository, you can only specify a branch. This is somehow limited, as sometimes you want to manage releases from Git using tags instead of branches.

To support this, we're changing the drop-down value of selecting a branch to a free text field where you can specify either a branch or a tag.

This will also store the value as an attribute that you will be able to extract using a keyword.

Squiz Matrix 5.5

Version 5.4 of Squiz Matrix has been out for over a year now, which means the next big version should be just around the corner.

Well, what I can tell you is that we have been working hard on Matrix version 5.5 for a long time now and have a planned release date for the end of Q1 in 2018.

This release will bring a lot of UI and performance improvements to the Admin interface for things like saving & loading screens, asset lock management, and much more. For example, we're working on making the locks on an asset completely AJAX based, which will allow you to re-acquire the locks if you've lost them due to an inactivity timeout.

Squizmap #5885

This, and many more improvements to existing functionality is planned for this big new version. Over the next couple of months we'll be sharing more updates on what 5.5 will contain and what some of the big new features and changes you can expect from it.
